Fragments and Relics

I’m always drawn to old relics. When I was a kid, I always said I wanted to be an archaeologist or an artist. Now that I’m grown up, I’ve realized that I can be both if I want to. The dig that I participated in two years ago in Israel just whetted my appetite for ancient things. Living in the south, eastern U.S. there are small opportunities for finding ancient fragments, but I’ve been trying to create some of my own to mimic that look in my jewelry. Using some of my metal techniques that I learned in the Richard Salley workshop and a few things that I’ve been trying on my own, these are the pieces that I have come up with.

Pewter, copper, African trading beads, glass, wood, and stone were used in these newest creations. Not for everyone perhaps, but I’m sure there is someone out there who is as hooked on old things as I am.
